Kendall Jenner (1995 ) Kendall Jenner model from Los Angeles, California part of a wave of social media models the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has been named the new face of cosmetics giant Estee Lauder 2014 and after years of being featured in commercial modelling print ads and many photoshoots including selfies posted on social media she had breakout seasons in 2014, walking the runways and causing a storm as part of the 2014 New York, Milan and also Paris Fashion Weeks. With her younger sister Kylie she designs and inspires a clothing line called 'Kendall & Kylie' available exclusively at PacSun a former surf and skate shop in California, following the launch of the Dress Irresponsibly campaign, PacSun continued to evolve from just a surf and skate apparel shop into a leading retailer of emerging brands, particularly for women. Collaborations with notable design minded labels with a turn to style and fashion focused garments has given the brand an elevated fashion look.
Cara Delevinge (1992 ) Model and actress from London Cara Delevingne's distinctive dark, bushy eyebrows are her model trademark she has had an amazing start to her modeling career. As a young girl, Delevingne modelled for Cadbury chocolate ads,she signed to Storm Model Management in 2009 later becoming the face of Burberry's 2012 also the face of DKNY in late 2012 she has featured in fashion advertising campaigns for many other brands and modeled on the runway for Chanel, Victoria's Secret, Dolce and Gabanna, Fendi, Stella McCartney and more being announced Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards 2012 and 2014. Cara has graced the cover of Vogue UK and American Vogue (July 2015). She has appeared in films and music videos she also sings, beatboxes and plays drums. Cara had a minor role in Anna Karenina 2012 Romantic drama starring Keira Knightley and played the film's Amanda Knox-like anti-heroine in The Face of an Angel the film starred Kate Beckinsale as a reporter investigating the facts behind an Italian murder case, based on a true story the film was subject to delays and issues due to ongoing court cases, released in March 2015. More recently she stars as leading actress in Paper Towns a coming of age film alongside Nat Wolff set UK August 2015. Cara also plays a mermaid in the Pan film released October 2015 and also the Enchantress in the much anticipated 2016 superhero movie Suicide Squad plus other upcoming films. Gisele Bündchen (1980) Brazilian model discovered at age 14 by the Elite modelling agency at a shopping mall in Sao Paulo while on a school trip. She was subsequently selected for a national modelling contest -Elite Look of the Year, she came second in the competition. also noted for her relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio and later marrying Tom Brady. Gisele Bündchen pioneered the 'horse walk' a stomping movement created when a model picks her knees up high and kicks her feet out in front, which she recently showed to the world again during her catwalk stomp slot for the Rio Olympics 2016. Her big break came in London 1998 when chosen for her ability to walk in towering heels on a slippery runway as a model for Alexander McQueen's 'rain' ready to wear fashion show. Gisele featured both US and British Vogue covers for the new millennium January 2000, she became the fourth model to appear on the cover of the music magazine Rolling Stone when she was named 'the most beautiful girl in the world' Appearing on more than 600 magazine covers throughout the world a total that only Princess Diana overtakes. In 2012 she was placed first on the Forbes top-earning models list. In May 2014 she was named as the new spokeswoman for the iconic fragrance Chanel No.5 apparently selected for her 'natural beauty and modern femininity', according to the company.
Kate Moss (1974) When Kate was first discovered in London it marked the end of the supermodel era, here came along a child like figure of what was known rightly or wrongly as 'heroin chic' it was during the time of 90's grunge she became as famous as a model for her looks as her bad behaviour and relationship with bad boy Pete Doherty. Drug allegations began in late 2005 which led to her being dropped as a fashion model from a large number of fashion campaigns. She was cleared of all drug charges and resumed her modelling career. Finally after breaking away and wedding rocker Jamie Hince of 'The Kills' she signed major modelling contracts and launched her own fashion line exclusive to Top Shop As part of a British Museum exhibition in 2008 Kate was used as inspiration in an 18 carat gold statue sculpture of her. In 2013 Kate was awarded at the British Fashion Awards for her contribution to fashion over 25 years. We love Kate's recognisable and gorgeous face whatever she's pouting YES from us. Kate has a daughter born in 2002 Lila Grace Moss Hack with then long time partner Jefferson Hack. According to the British papers July 2015 looks like Kate is heading for divorce from Jamie Hince and photographed on a trip to Niagara Falls with ex partner Jefferson Hack
Tyra Banks (1973 ) American model from Inglewood, California she started modelling at 15 she was the first African-American woman to cover GQ and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and one of the original Angels models for Victoria's Secret Tyra Banks became one of the world's top-earning models in the early 2000s. Later known for a variety of film and television work which began with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (series 4) and went on to include Coyote Ugly and Disney Channel's Life-Size. In 2003 she created and hosted America's Next Top Model and hosted her own popular talk show The Tyra Banks Show. She published a novel Modelland based on her life as a model in 2010 which reached top of the NY Times best seller list. In 2011, launched typeF.com a fashion and beauty website. She is known for being outspoken on abusive relationships, having been a victim herself she established the TZONE program, which aimed at leadership and life skills development. In 2005, TZONE transformed from a camp into a public charity, the Tyra Banks TZONE.
Heidi Klum (1973) German model, television host, businesswoman, fashion designer, television producer and actress having cameo parts in movies and appearing in TV shows as well as a judge on America's Got Talent Heidi Klum became Barbie's official ambassador on Barbie's 50th anniversary. Discovered in her native Germany aged 18, a more curvy model than had been idolised at that time famous for covers on Sports Illustrated in 1998 and again in 2006 after becoming a mother. Noted for appearing on the runway in 2005 (a couple of months after having a baby) as a model for Victorias Secret. She is ranked second on Forbes list of the 'World's Top-Earning Models', behind Gisele Bündchen. Forbes also noted that since ending her 13-year run as a Victoria's Secret Angel she had become more of a businesswoman than a model. Now host and executive producer for award-winning reality show 'Project Runway' for up and coming designers.
Claudia Schiffer (1970) German model who was discoverd in Dusseldorf at 17 in a nightclub, she made the covers of Vanity Fair, The New York Times, People and Rolling Stone as well as covering Vogue and other fashion magazines several times she has also appeared in many films including cameo roles and music videos. She has appeared as a fashion model on the catwalk for numerous fashion houses and modeled for Guess Jeans which it has been said helped the brands popularity. Claudia Schiffer has released four excercise videos 'Claudia Schiffer's Perfectly Fit which were successful and reached the best seller list. She began her involvement with UNICEF by becoming a member of the Arts & Entertainment Support Committee and is UK Goodwill Ambassador for the organisation. Claudia was also a spokesman for Make Poverty History where she appeared in the powerful Click advertisement. In 2005, she appeared as a presenter at both the Berlin and Edinburgh Live 8 concerts.
Naomi Campbell (1970) * British model scouted at 15 in London, her then home town, but famous worldwide for her looks and attitude. First black model to land covers on both British and French Vogue. Known for her heated temper and attitude. Model, actor, activist mentor and executive producer of The Face an American reality television modelling competition series competition series an excellent host to talent scout show. We think she's fun and speaks her mind okay control your temper Naomi but she accepted her errors accused ten times of acts of violence against employees, associates and one instance police officers, where at Heathrow airport she spat at the officers whilst in a rage over her lost luggage! The first case Naomi pleaded guilty to throwing a mobile phone at her assistant paid an undisclosed sum and agreed to attend anger management classes her record was cleared due to showing remorse. During five days of community service with New York's sanitation department. Naomi attended her community service wearing designer outfits, including furs, fedoras, and upon completion of her sentence she wore a silver sequined Dolce & Gabbana gown. By 2006 eight others joined in with claims of abuse, such as having a book thrown at them! Naomi Campbell is involved with several charitable causes fundraising bringing awareness and the founding of many worldwide charitable companies where her work has been recognised and rewarded by various people including the Mayor Cesar Maia of Rio de Janeiro for her efforts fighting poverty in Brazil and also from Sarah Brown for her Outstanding Contribution award from British Elle for her work as an ambassador for the White Ribbon Alliance, as well as her work in the fashion industry.
Christy Turlington (1969 ) * An extremely popular and beautiful model born and discovered in California, moving to NYC at 18 to model full time. She has appeared on over 500 magazine covers, various professional photo books and in two music videos not only a supermodel also an advocate for women's health across the globe. In 2010, Christy Turlington founded Every Mother Counts, a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother engaging new audiences to take actions and raise funds supporting maternal health programs worldwide. Prior to the founding of EMC, Christy made a documentary (after suffering complications in her own 2003 childbirth) about pregnant women and their caregivers in Tanzania, Bangladesh, Guatemala, and the United States called No Woman No Cry. In 2013, she directed the documentary film Every Mile, Every Mother. She is also the author of the book Living Yoga: Creating A Life Practice Guest writer for many popular fashion magazines and guest correspondent to news programmes Another interesting fact her sister is married to her husband's brother.
Tatjana Patiz (1966) * Model and actress, born in Hamburg, Germany but raised in Sweden she got into modelling aged 14 after being entered into an 'Elite Models' Look contest. She rose to international prominence in the 1980s and 1990s, representing top fashion designers, including Versace, Chanel and Calvin Klein fashion campaigns, and fashion collections. Patitz was originally part of the 'big six' in the 1990s, which included fellow supermodels who were successful, influential and created ideals of beauty through their worldwide fame like Tatjana Patitz, including Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. Model for the Palmers, lingerie summer 2014 campaign looking beautiful as ever, also on cover of Italian magazine. Tatjana Patitz went to live on a ranch in Malibu, California in 1989, in 2009 she was reported to have four horses, four dogs and two cats, commenting 'I needed nature around me'
Cindy Crawford (1966) * American model from Illinois, stunning and a change from the traditional Californian blonde haired, blue eyed sought after features. Cindy Crawford brought the brunette to the forefront of American models. Also known for her mole/beauty mark above her upper lip surprisingly the mole was removed from her earlier modelling pictures, including her first Vogue fashion cover. She became the face of Revlon. In 1995, she was named by Forbes magazine as the highest paid model on the planet. In 1988, she posed nude for Playboy in a shoot by photographer Herb Ritts and again ten years later. The TV Show Who Do You Think You Are? showed her as a direct descendant of Charlemagne - Charles the Great, her 41 times great grandfather! She was married to actor Richard Gere from 1991 to 1995. She has been married to former model Rande Gerber since 1998. Since becoming a model she has made childhood leukaemia a focal point of her charity work, as she lost her younger brother when she was only ten years old. Cindy and Rande's teenage children Presley and Kaia Gerber have also hit the modelling world by storm and have inherited the stunning looks genes from both parents.
Linda Evangelista (1965) * Canadian born model to Italian parents who emigrated to Ontario, Canada. In 1981 she took part in the Miss Teen Niagara beauty pageant although she didn't win she was noticed by a representative from Elite Model Management discovered and signed with Elite Model Management in NYC. Known for her striking looks, fierce attitude "We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day!" her most famous quote. Her move to France helped put her on the cover of French Vogue at age 22. Also known as the face of L'Oreal She became one of the first editorial fashion models to successfully cross over to runway modeling. Linda Evangelista was referred to as the fashion industry's chameleon for the way that she constantly reinvented herself with various hairstyle fashions and hair colors that inspired many hair trends throughout her modelling career. Autumn 1988, photographer Peter Lindbergh suggested that she went for a shortcut after seeing her try on a short wig for a photo shoot. Linda went ahead and got a short gamine haircut from the French hairstylist Julien d'Ys Lindbergh then took the now-famous photograph known as the white shirt picture. The haircut was not well received by the fashion industry, Evangelista being cancelled from 16 fashion shows, but by spring of 1989, Evangelista's haircut was referred to as 'The Linda' and inspiring the creation of a wig called 'The Evangelista' many women went on to emulate her hairstyle.
Iman (1955) One of the first black supermodels, from Somalia a refugee discovered at Nairobi University, in Kenya. Her name means "faith" in Arabic. She is a model, actress and entrepreneur. A pioneer in the field of ethnic cosmetics and noted for her charitable work as an activist for human rights. Iman married another Icon David Bowie in 1992 and said of him “But as I always said: I fell in love with David Jones. I did not fall in love with David Bowie. Bowie is just a persona. He's a singer, an entertainer. David Jones is a man I met.” She has her own make-up line Iman Cosmetics see her book The Beauty of Colour IMAN Cosmetics, a top worldwide cosmetic line. Iman is singularly aware of the difficulties women with skin of colour have with makeup and skin care. Her company offers women choices that they have never had, whatever their skin tone. Beverly Johnson (1952) American model, actress and businesswoman from Buffalo, New York First black model to appear on American Vogue cover in August 1974. A year later, she became the first black woman to appear on the cover of the French edition of Elle magazine. Beverly Johnson has apperared in many movies and tv shows including two seasons as celebrity judge on the TV Land series She's Got the Look a reality show in US where women over 35 compete for a modeling contract and fashion magazine spread. She now runs her famous hair and wig company Beverly Johnson Hair Collection She has also written a health and beauty book
Lesley Hornby (1947) aka 'Twiggy' Model, actress, singer, fashion designer. Became the modern look of London in the sixties. Famous for her gamine haircut at 16, which spirralled her into the limelight becoming the 'Face of 1966' Twiggy went on to become a successful actress in film, stage and television, beginning her acting career by starring in Ken Russell's film "The Boyfriend", for which she won two Golden Globe awards, she had her own chat show Twiggys People interviewing amongst others the iconic late Joan Rivers and Lauren Bacall she also released many music albums showing off her singing talent too. We love Twiggy Lawson and her appearance and personality have notfaltered. Still looking glamouros in Marks and Spencer fashion advertisements and also has her own fashion line Twiggy at M&S.We loved her as guest judge on the popular reality show America's Next Top Model. Jean Shrimpton (1942) aka 'The Shrimp' Born in Buckinghamshire one of the worlds first supermodels, from London 1960's swinging sixties era. A waifish figure, good or bad it left the more voluptuous models of previous decades behind...she also made popular the mini skirt in the mid '60's. She began modeling at age 17, see here for a link with British Vogue a more in depth look at her meeting with fashion photographer David Bailey an icon himself, and where things went from there. A reluctant model who didn't see what all the fuss was about and moved away from the industry all together thirty years ago opening a hotel in Cornwall with her husband Michael Cox The Abbey Hotel, Penzance, Cornwall which has great reviews a unique, extravagant yet inexpensive17th century townhouse family friendly, bed and breakfast which is now run by their son Thaddeus. In an interview with the Guardian 2011 she was quoted as saying "Fashion is full of dark, troubled people. It's a high-pressured environment that takes its toll and burns people out. Only the shrewd survive - Andy Warhol, for example, and David Bailey."
